Android Auto – Step by Step Setup

If you’re using Android Auto for the first time and aren’t quite sure how to use it, here are some steps to get you started. Stay connected with friends and family using the technology your vehicle has, allowing you to drive safely and hands free!

Android Auto on Your Phone Screen

  • Make sure your phone is using Android 5.0 (lollipop) and up. For best performance, use Android 6.0 (marshmallow) and up.
  • Download the Android Auto App from Google Play
  • Make sure your phone has a fast network connection. It is recommended to run Android Auto for the first time within wifi range for quick installation.

Start Android Auto

  • Open Android Auto
  • Download any updates that your phone recommends such as Google Maps.
  • Review safety notice and terms & conditions on your phone (it will only ask you the first time you use the app)
  • Follow steps to give Android Auto permission to access your phone’s features and apps. (For the best experience accept all permissions and requests.)
  • Turn on all notifications for Android Auto. For best results, accept all requests.
  • If your phone is already paired with your car’s Bluetooth, select the device to enable auto launch for Android Auto.

Android Auto on Your Car Display (With a USB Cable)

  • Make sure your phone is using Android 5.0 (lollipop) and up. For best performance, use Android 6.0 (marshmallow) and up.
  • Confirm your car is compatible with Android Auto and that it turned on in your car’s settings. If you aren’t sure, contact your local dealer.
  • Make sure your phone has a fast network connection. It is recommended to run Android Auto for the first time within wifi range for quick installation.
  • Download the Android Auto app from Google Play, or just plug your phone into a compatible car with a USB cable and you’ll be prompted to download the app.

 

Connect Your Phone

Before you connect your phone for the first time, turn on your car. Make sure that you are in a safe place and that you have time to set up Android Auto.

  • Unlock your phone’s screen
  • Connect your phone to your care using a USB cable
  • Your phone might ask you to download or update certain apps, like Google Maps.
  • Review safety notice and terms & conditions on your phone (it will only ask you the first time you use the app)
  • Turn on all notifications for Android Auto. For best results, accept all requests.

Your phone’s Bluetooth will be turned on automatically when Android Auto is connected to the car via USB.

Start Android Auto

              On your car display, select Android Auto. Follow instructions to get started.
